Welcome to Space Mission Monday - it's Yuri's Day!

April 12, 2021

"April 12 was already a huge day in space history twenty years before the launch of the first shuttle mission. On that day in 1961, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (left, on the way to the launch pad) became the first human in space, making a 108-minute orbital flight in his Vostok 1 spacecraft. Newspapers like The Huntsville Times (right) trumpeted Gagarin's accomplishment."

Good morganite, friends!! A very happy Monday to you all. It's time to grab your cup of coffee or tea and enjoy some friendly conversation with one another. 😃

Today is the 60th anniversary of a momentous occasion in human history.... Man has reached space, orbited the Earth and returned to tell the story! 👨‍🚀 🚀 This incredible accomplishment was only really eclipsed by the US when a manned mission made moonfall and was able to return home, being the ultimate prize for the lead competitors in the space race. NASA took another historic first on this day in 1981 with the launching of the first reusable spacecraft, the space shuttle Columbia launched from the Kennedy Space Centre. The Russians may not have managed to walk on the moon first, but their space station has become a major achievement in its own right. So, today, let's take our Monday to atmospheric heights and have our own play among the stars! ✨ 😺 There's no obligation to post images. The only thing we hope you do is enjoy yourself.
