Welcome to Flying High Friday - it's Wright Brothers Day!

December 17, 2021

Good morganite, friends!! A very happy Friday to you all. It's time to grab your cup of coffee or tea and enjoy some friendly conversation with one another. 😁

Orville and his brother Wilbur are given credit for building the world's first successful airplane with aircraft controls that enabled them to steer the plane. The brothers' first aircraft, named Flyer, made its maiden flight for 12 seconds and 120 feet (about 36-37 meters) around the site of Wright Brothers National Memorial in North Carolina on December 17, 1903. This day is observed nationally since 1963 to honor Wilbur and Orville Wright.

The Wright brothers were not the first to build and fly experimental aircraft but they are the first to invent aircraft controls that made fixed wing flight possible. In the years that followed, aviation advancements were made. The Wright brothers' efforts paved the way for modern day aeronautics.

Mankind has been fascinated by the skies since time immemorial and a few incredibly insightful and intelligent people throughout history have brought about some truly fantastic flying marvels, so today, we're looking to the skies to celebrate one particular day that changed the future, as well as other aerial concepts and inventions - before and since that historic occasion!! Please feel free to share some beautiful bird images today too....they are the ones who inspired Man to reach for the skies! 🛩️ 🦅 🚁 🛰️ 😺 There's no obligation to post images. The only thing we hope you do is enjoy yourself.
